About / Additional Info:The Superior Court handles all felony criminal cases, including death penalty cases, with the assistance of the District Attorney’s Office, Public Defender’s Office and privately retained attorneys. The Superior Court also handles Adoptions, Child Custody, Child Support, Divorces, Garnishments, Family Violence and Stalking Protective Orders, Habeas Corpus, Name Changes, Parental Rights, Title to Land Disputes, and Other Civil Suits. Superior Court Judges elected by the citizens of the Middle Judicial Circuit preside over all matters within the Superior Court. The Middle Judicial Circuit is comprised of Washington, Jefferson, Emanuel, Toombs, and Candler Counties.
