Originally part of Wilkes County, its neighbor to the west, Lincoln County was created on February 20, 1796. Lincoln County was named after Revolutionary War hero General Benjamin Lincoln, who was a distinguished American patriot, when it became the twenty-fourth county created in Georgia. |
